With a strong background in public policy PR and expertise in designing and managing advocacy campaigns and coalitions, Emily Pappas has built a practice in strategic communications and branding that spans nearly two decades. Over the years, Emily has developed broad experience in sectors including science, technology, education, healthcare and energy.

Emily’s strength lies in her ability to leverage the complete arsenal of communication strategies to move the needle for her client. Working closely with Cogent’s digital and research team, she knows how to turn data-driven insights into actionable intelligence to drive narratives and impact outcomes. Emily is adept at writing and storytelling. She enjoys crafting compelling messaging that resonates with target audiences, whether lawmakers in Washington or stakeholders across the U.S. And, with a unique understanding of the Beltway media and top regional publications, Emily knows where and how to take a message so that it’s seen by those who matter most.

Emily has years of experience in coalition building and management. She has brought together competitors to apply pressure on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve adult obesity medications; united interests in the field of optics and photonics to secure, among other notable wins, the nation’s first National Quantum Initiative; and currently organizes television networks and public interest advocates to drive awareness of the TV ratings system. Throughout her career, Emily has also launched numerous campaigns on issues ranging from online betting to clean energy to diplomacy. She has a unique appreciation for convergence of communications, digital and policy in developing comprehensive campaigns that effectively brand issues, reach intended audiences and position clients as thought leaders. When not supporting clients, Emily is Cogent’s point-person on marketing and communications.

A diehard Michigan sports fan and proud native of the Great Lakes State, Emily was born and raised on the shores of Lake Michigan. Nowadays, she gets her beach-fix in Delaware where she spends her weekends paddle boarding, biking and enjoy the ocean surf with her family.
