The 148th running of Kentucky Derby takes place Saturday, May 7. While the early odds are on Epicenter to cross the finish line first, you can imagine that all the owners, trainers and jockeys are spending these final hours getting their horses in the best position to make a run for the roses. Similarly, across the country, candidates are gearing up for the 2022 midterm elections. The race gets underway in earnest this month with 12 primaries before Memorial Day ranging from the largely uncontested to the hotly challenged. While most everyone predicts the GOP will win back the U.S. House, the battle for party control of the U.S. Senate rages on with pundits and political junkies looking to this stretch of primary races for cues as to what could unfold this fall.
So as you sip a mint julep and try to sing along to My Old Kentucky Home, take a minute to check out the political horses we have our eyes (and, in some cases, money) on this election cycle.
