How We Did It

As the entertainment industry faced the threat of government regulation if they did not take steps to rate TV content, they turned to our team for guidance on the design and implementation of a television ratings system. We shepherded a partnership of fierce competitors to build a 26-member, intra-industry coalition and facilitated talks with the White House, Congress and parents’ and children’s advocacy groups and educational and medical associations to refine and garner support for the ratings system. Our efforts staved off the constitutional battle over First Amendment rights that could have ensued had the government attempted to further restrict the industry.

To this day, we serve as the Executive Secretariat of the organization. In this capacity we oversee the day-to-day operations, engage with consumers and promote the ratings system across digital and traditional media channels, through events and annual reports.
